What is hypnotherapy/hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is a safe and enjoyable process that uses hypnosis to induce a deep state of relaxation, during which our unconscious minds are highly accessible to new outlooks, points of views and ideas. During hypnosis you are not unconscious and you do not do things that you are not willing to do.

The reason hypnosis is so effective lies in the extreme power of our unconscious mind, which is responsible for keeping us safe and helping us. Our unconscious mind is thought to process literally thousands of pieces of information at any given time, whilst our conscious mind can only hold between 5-9 pieces of information.

Our unconscious mind takes care of all our automatic responses, such as our breathing, our heart beat, blood circulation and tissue repair, all without us having to consciously think about it. The unconscious mind also stores all our learned responses from birth, i.e., walking, talking, eating, drinking, all of these we do without consciously having to think about it. The unconscious mind also stores our less practical and sometimes problematic learned responses or behavioural habits, which might include being afraid of heights, having anxiety and/or stress in certain situations, or smoking. In order to change some of these responses, habits or even behaviours, we must first access the unconscious mind and re-programme it.
